ArtsConnection Benefit raises over $1 million!
The ArtsConnection Spring Benefit on May 24, 2011 was a tremendous success, raising over $1 million for arts education in New York City. Honoree and Board Vice Chairman Robert A. Pruzan was instrumental in making this our most successful fundraising event in our 32 year history as an organization. Broadway's Newest Stars Shine at the Majestic!
On June 6th, hundreds of NYC public school students made their Broadway debut at the Broadway Junior year-end sharing. Students from fifteen schools across the city performed on the grand stage of the Majestic Theatre in an event hosted by Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter movies who is currently performing on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Broadway Junior is a collaboration between ArtsConnection, the Shubert Foundation and MTI that provides NYC school children the opportunity to perform in adapted Broadway productions at their schools. High 5 Releases Spring Guide for Teens!
ArtsConnection's High 5 program recently released its 2011 Spring Guide! Teens from all over the city can use the guide to learn more about inexpensive arts and cultural events taking place in NYC this spring, featuring everything from Tibetan Art on Staten Island to a film festival in the Bronx! Student Art Program Installs Largest Exhibition
The Student Art ProgramWorlds Near and Far II exhibition at Eton Park Capital Management took place on Tuesday, February 8th. Over 230 students attended with their families to see their work professionally installed in the beautiful corporate space. Coming up in March, a new partner, Proskauer Rose LLP, will be holding an exhibition entitled Goals and Dreams for 35 student artists in their new Times Square office. Photo taken by Max Flatow.

ArtsConnection's Student Art Program is seeking student artwork submissions for an upcoming exhibition at the offices of Centerview Partners titled The Rhythm of the Day. One hundred pieces of student artwork will be framed, displayed and honored at an opening reception at Centerview Partners. Each winner will receive a $100 gift certificate for art supplies. The Student Art Program is seeking submissions for an upcoming exhibition at the offices of Proskauer Rose, LLP. The theme of this showcase is Goals and Dreams. Thirty-four selected works will be framed, displayed and honored at an opening reception. Each winner will receive a $100 gift certificate for art supplies. Students, please note that the work must be submitted through a teacher at your school and the deadline for submissions is December 17, 2010.
ArtsConnection residency teaches the next generation of yogis!
From deep breathing exercises to playing "Yogi Says," ArtsConnection Teaching Artist Amparo Chigui Santiago fully engages her littlest yoga students, Kindergarten through 3rd graders at P.S. 150 in Lower Manhattan. Mural at O'Shea Complex Officially Dedicated
On October 25 students, teachers, parents and members of the Upper West Side community gathered for the formal dedication of a new mural at the O'Shea Education Complex on West 77th Street. The mural was designed and painted by students from the four schools (West Prep Academy, the Anderson School, the Computer School and MS 44)that share the building. The mural was coordinated by ArtsConnection and supervised by ArtsConnection teaching artists Janet Braun-Reinitz and Rochelle Shicoff. ArtsConnection, Marc Jacobs and the High School of Fashion Industries Have HeART!
ArtsConnection partners with the High School of Fashion Industries to celebrate the opening of Marc Jacobs at Bloomingdales! Students will create original artwork inspired by the Marc Jacobs collection to be exhibited for the opening weekend October 15-16. During Friday night’s cocktail event and an all-day shopping event open to the public Saturday, 10% of proceeds will support ArtsConnection programs. ArtsConnection Receives Prestigious USED Grant
This summer, ArtsConnection was awarded a prestigious federal grant from the United States Department of Education’s Arts in Education Model Development and Dissemination (AEMDD) program for $1.1 million over the next four years. The grant-funded project will focus on facilitating partnership among artists and teachers, developing interdisciplinary units of study, and integrating formative assessment into the arts and English Language Arts. We will be partnering with four public schools: PS 130k, PS 230k, Earth School in Manhattan, and Bronx Little School to carry out this ground-breaking project.

ArtsConnection Students Spruce Up Schoolyard Wall!
ArtsConnection is starting the school year in an Upper West Side schoolyard, replacing its graffiti-stained wall with a student-designed mural. A team of artists began painting the 16' x 78' mural this summer. Starting this week, with the support of local businesses and ArtsConnection teaching artists Janet Braun-Reinitz and Rochelle Shicoff, students will complete the mural during in- and after-school art classes. The mural will be publicly dedicated in October.
