Family Events
ArtsConnection family events increase the involvement of parents and caregivers in the artistic and educational lives of students. Families spend quality time together in a fun, creative atmosphere. Parents/caregivers learn about and appreciate newly discovered talents in their children, engage in conversation about the role of the arts in their culture and family history and bring positive excitement to the school community. Events may be thematically designed or extend what students are learning – both arts and non-arts – during the school day. Events may serve specific grades or the entire school community. |

Workshops
Families collaborate in art making as well as discuss their creative processes, going home with new skills in the arts or a project created at the event. The focus of workshops is on art making. Whether it is learning a dance form or making a painting, artists create a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can participate and succeed. Examples of family event workshops include: Native American dancing; flying family-made kites; painting decorative panels for a school’s courtyar;, bringing stories to life; and, joining together to celebrate the dance and music of Caribbean or Chinese cultures.

Workshops & Performances
Along with a hands-on workshop (see “Workshops” for description), families are treated to a professional performance by an ArtsConnection performing group. Performances may be related to the workshop by demonstrating the form at the professional level or by a cultural or thematic design. Examples of Workshop/Performance events include: Landscape painting and Nature’s Rhythms; Chinese calligraphy and China Patterns; Clay and Journey Through the Caribbean; Improvisational theater and TheatreSports. Click here for a full list of performances and their prices.

Parent Workshops
No kids allowed, these workshops are for adults ONLY! Parents and caregivers have the opportunity to understand what their students are learning in the arts by experiencing it first hand. Parent workshops give parents an appreciation for the complexity of the arts and allows them to have informed conversations with their children about their own learning in the arts. Examples of parent workshops include: exploring dance styles from around the world; bookmaking; introduction to music; storytelling – recounting the family history.
