Residencies culminate in an informal presentation of the class story to an audience of their peers. Each child receives a bound copy of the story with his or her own illustration. |

After making their own shadow puppets, students share an Anansi Story with other students in the school. They deepen their understanding of narrative structure and expand descriptive language through participatory activities led by Ms. Orr. |

LATIN AMERICAN FOLK TALES AND SONGS Actor and storyteller Felix Pitre uses songs, stories, dance and puppetry to bring to life the richness and joy of Hispanic folklore, customs and music. Students learn storytelling technique as they re-tell familiar stories or create their own tales. |

STORYTELLING Storyteller and writer Bob Reiser shares folk tales, myths and other stories with students and then breaks down the mystery of story-making into an eight-step process that students use to write their own stories. Students read their original stories to their classmates in a supportive atmosphere encouraging discussion about the techniques and content. |

Children explore the structure and meaning of stories using a variety of theater techniques. The students express themselves and expand their imaginations as they physicalize scenes, create dialogue and characters. Ms. Smith also infuses her workshops with a repertoire of songs that are used for vocal warm-up and as part of the stories. |
